Ukraine's Roman-rite bishops support nation's territorial integrity

April 10, 2014

The Roman-rite bishops of Ukraine have issued a statement supporting the nation's territorial integrity in the face of recent Russian actions.

10% of Ukrainians are Catholic, and the nation has seven Roman Catholic dioceses, 15 Ukrainian Greek Catholic eparchies and other ecclesial structures, one Armenian Catholic eparchy, and one Ruthenian Catholic eparchy.

“We condemn any attempts to provoke and inflame hatred on religious grounds,” the Roman-rite bishops said in a statement, according to the Religious Information Service of Ukraine. “We reiterate that the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine supports the integrity of Ukraine … In this difficult time once again we give our country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”
