Pope Francis begins weekly audiences on gifts of the Holy Spirit

Pope Francis has begun a new series of Wednesday general audiences devoted to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit, Pope Francis said, is himself the gift of God, and he in turn imparts seven gifts, the first of which is wisdom. This wisdom is not a human wisdom that is the fruit of “knowledge and experience,” but instead is seeing everything with the eyes of God.

The Pope added that this gift of wisdom comes “from intimacy with God, from the intimate relationship that we have with God, the relationship of children with the Father.” In this communion with the Lord, the Holy Spirit transfigures hearts and makes Christians wise-- not in the sense of knowing everything, but in the sense of knowing when something is of God and when it is not of God. Docile to the Holy Spirit, Christians become a “beautiful and living sign of God's presence and love.”

“And this is something that we cannot improvise, that we cannot find for ourselves: it is a gift that God gives” to those who are docile to the Holy Spirit, Pope Francis said.
