Pope highlights importance of Synod of Bishops

April 08, 2014

Pope Francis has named Msgr. Fabio Fabene, undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops since February, a bishop.

In a letter to Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, secretary general of the Synod of Bishops, Pope Francis recalled the institution of the Synod of Bishops by Pope Paul VI and called for an “ever more authentic and profound exercise of synodal collegiality, to better realize ecclesial communion” and promote the Church’s mission.

Attaching the episcopal dignity to the position of undersecretary, Pope Francis continued, better reflects the “affective and effective communion that constitutes the main purpose of the Synod of Bishops.”
