Pope announces 'festival of forgiveness' next weekend

March 24, 2014

Pope Francis has announced a special program to encourage Confessions next weekend.

The “24 Hours for the Lord” program will begin on Friday afternoon, March 28, and continue through Saturday. It will begin with a penitential service in St. Peter’s basilica, and continue with opportunities for individual confession and private prayer.

During the weekend, the Pope told his midday audience on Sunday, churches in the center of Rome will be open for confessions. He said that the same program should be held in dioceses around the world.
