The Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph will pay $1.3 million to settle an additional lawsuit against a priest who has been sentenced to 50 years in prison on child pornography charges.
The lawsuit was brought by the parents of a young girl who was photographed by Father Shawn Ratigan. The failure of diocesan officials to alert law-enforcement officials to the evidence of pornography found on the priest’s computer eventually led to the criminal conviction of Bishop Robert Finn.
The diocese has now paid $3.75 million in settlements involving Ratigan, the Associated Press reported.
