Pope invites prison inmates to his residence

February 19, 2014

Pope Francis met on February 19 with a group of 19 Italian prison inmates, who were making a pilgrimage to the Vatican accompanied by prison guards.

When the Pope heard that the prisoners were at the Vatican, he asked to meet with them before his regular Wednesday public audience. The Holy Father spoke to each prisoner, giving each his blessing.

The meeting took place at the Pope's residence in the Domus Sanctae Marthae. In his brief remarks the Pontiff showed them an image of Our Lady Untier of Knots, and explained his own attachment to that devotion.
