Queen Elizabeth to visit with Pope in April

February 04, 2014

Queen Elizabeth will visit the Vatican and meet with Pope Francis in April, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The 87-year-old British monarch plans a one-day trip to Italy on April 3. She is scheduled to meet with Pope Francis in the afternoon, after a lunch with Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano.

Queen Elizabeth has not met Pope Francis. She has visited the Vatican three times—in 1961, 1980, and 2000—and met there with Popes John XXIII and John Paul II.
