Priest murdered in California

A priest of the Diocese of Santa Rosa was found murdered in his rectory when he failed to show up for Mass on January 1, according to multiple media reports.
Ordained in 1990, Father Eric Freed was pastor of a parish and a mission church in Eureka, California. He also taught religious studies at Humboldt State University and has translated an atomic bomb survivor’s poetry from Japanese into English.
