December 30, 2013

Archbishop Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, and Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States, received a delegation from the Syrian government on December 28.

The delegation was led by Minister of State Joseph Sweid, an Orthodox Christian.

“The delegation brought a message from President [Bashar al-] Assad for the Holy Father and explained the position of the Syrian government,” Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Holy See Press Office, said in a brief statement following the meeting.
