For 2nd time in week, Pope Francis and Benedict XVI meet

December 30, 2013

Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI gathered for lunch on December 27, four days after the Pope had visited the Pope Emeritus to exchange Christmas greetings.

The lunch, described by Vatican Radio as a “festive event,” took place in Domus Sanctae Marthae, Pope Francis’s residence. Also present at the lunch were the Pope’s secretary, the Pope Emeritus’s secretary, and two leading officials of the Secretariat of State, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti and Msgr. Peter Wells.
