Pope spends Saturday with young patients at pediatric hospital

December 23, 2013

Pope Francis brought Christmas greetings to young patients at the Bambin Gesu Pediatric Hospital on Saturday, December 21.

The Pope—accompanied by the Secretary of State, Archbishop Pietro Parolin, and his predecessor, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone—spent 3 hours visiting with children at the institution, which is the oldest pediatric hospital in Italy. He had been scheduled to deliver an address to patients and staff, but chose instead to devote all of his time to meeting with young patients in the wards.
