Pope visits young patients at Vatican dispensary

December 16, 2013

On Saturday, December 14, Pope Francis visited children at the Santa Marta Dispensary, an institution located in the Vatican near his own residence at the Domus Sanctae Marthae.

As he greeted the young patients, the Pope was presented with a cake, as the children surprised him with a premature birthday party. The Pope will celebrate his 77th birthday on Tuesday, December 17.

The Santa Marta Dispensary, founded by Pope Pius XI in 1922, provides medical services for needy young people. Administered by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, the institution has treated more than 3,500 patients this year.
