Curial congregation denies report it doesn’t pay property taxes

November 19, 2013

The Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples has denied an Italian press report that it did not pay the Italian municipal property tax (IMU) on its revenue-generating assets.

“It would be enough to turn to competent authorities to find out that in 2012 the dicastery paid Euro 1,952,000.00, for IMU in Rome alone,” the Congregation stated. “With regards to the income derived from the properties, taxes are regularly paid in Italy.”
