Pope repeats pleas for peace in Syria, help for Philippines

November 13, 2013

At the conclusion of his regular weekly public audience on November 13, Pope Francis renewed his pleas for peace in Syria and for help for the people of the Philippines suffering from the ravages of a typhoon. The Pope said that he had learned “with great sadness” about the schoolchildren killed and injured by mortar fire in Damascus. “Please, let us pray with all our strength that these tragedies may never again happen!” he said.

Turning then to the Philippines, the Pope called for more prayers and for material aid. “These are the real battles that must be fought,” he said; “For life, never for death!”
