Seminar sponsored by European bishops says man-made climate change is 'irrefutable'

October 21, 2013

Academic experts and Church activists agreed on the “irrefutability” and “indisputability” of the evidence for man-made climate change, at a seminar co-sponsored by the Commission of the Episcopates of the European Community (COMECE).

The seminar heard several speakers call for aggressive efforts to cut down the use of fossil fuels, question the wisdom of “growth-based” economic systems, and call for substantial changes in European lifestyles to curtail consumption.

The seminar took place following release of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which conceded that global warming has not taken place at the rate predicted in previous reports.

Suicide can be a serious sin. Murder is a serious sin. Attempting murder of one's Catholic Church is a serious sin. Suicide bombers have "wardrobe failures." If I were a bishop I wouldn't want to strap myself with with an explosive vest of ignorance, socialist ideology (pardon the redundancy) and suicidal propaganda. Again, I say, their job is to teach, sanctify and govern. One must ask which best describes them (1) simply ignorant; (2) deliberately evil; (3) naive (or what)? 10-20-13

I really don't understand why the Bishops feel they need to get involved and make a statement on something so far outside their area of competence. Don't they have enough on their plate?

"Church activists" in Western countries almost always means "activists who use the Church's name for their own ends." I don't know the truth about global warming or man-made climate change and I am willing to bet that the European bishops and those who signed on to this seminar don't know it either. Of course the bishops are part of a long tradition here: many prelates were wrong about heliocentrism too. The simar and science don't seem to go together terribly well.

Perhaps these church people can provide us with the actual evidence that human-produced carbon dioxide is causing harmful climate change. No one else has done it, so obviously it requires a miracle.

Is this a confusion of the language. Did they use "irrefutable" but meant "irresponsible"?

Here we go again with a bunch of left wing, bishops in socialist countries saying climate change is irrefutible. Their agrement sets the groundwork for the real agenda of the climate freaks and that is depopulation because if is human beings destroying the world. This is also the basis for another socialist plan of redistribution across the globe. That we we can all be equally poor and miserable. Church should stay away from this one.

When the evidence contradicts your position, pound the table and shout louder.
