35th anniversary of election of John Paul II

October 16, 2013

Marking the 35th anniversary of the election of Pope John Paul II, Pope Francis told his October 16 public audience: “I entrust all present, and your loved ones, to the heavenly intercession of Blessed John Paul II, on the 35th anniversary of his election to the Chair of St. Peter.”

The Pope reported that “an important cultural and religious event” was taking place that day in Katowice, Poland, the native town of the Polish Pontiff. To celebrate the anniversary, a dramatic representation of the life of St. Francis of Assisi was being staged there. The Pope sent his best wishes to the organizers of that event, hoping that their work “may arouse in the hearts of all those present the love for God the Creator, respect for creation and true charity for all those in need of spiritual and material assistance.”
