‘Unprecedented’ donations to Lourdes in response to flood damage
October 02, 2013
The famed Marian shrine of Lourdes has received “unprecedented” donations of 4.3 million euros ($5.8 million) to repair damage from a June flood, a local diocesan official told Agence France-Presse.
“The worldwide mobilization of Lourdes benefactors has exceeded our expectations,” said the shrine’s rector.
The flood caused 7.3 million euros in damage; the donations, combined with compensation from flood insurance, are sufficient to pay for the repairs.
