California abortion bill promises a windfall for Planned Parenthood

September 17, 2013

Planned Parenthood is looking forward to a windfall in California, if Governor Jerry Brown signs a bills that would allow nurses and midwives to perform abortions, the National Catholic Register notes.

The California legislation would make it possible for Planned Parenthood to provide abortions at dozens of clinics in the state, providing a new stream of revenue for the organization. The bill contrasts sharply with recent legislation in Texas, where abortion clinics will be required to meet the same standards as other surgical facilities.

Pro-lifers in California are clinging to the hope that Brown will veto the bill, but his professed “pro-choice” stand makes that outcome unlikely.
