Ecumenical Patriarch joins in Saturday prayer and fasting for peace in Syria

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, the leading prelate in the Orthodox world, has welcomed the call by Pope Francis to make Saturday, September 7, a special day of prayer and fasting for peace in Syria.

"We, too, shall heed the call from our brother in Christ Francis to pray next Saturday for this purpose as we have always done since the start of the bloody conflict in Syria,” the Ecumenical Patriarch said.
