Assisi basilica extends hours for September 7 peace vigil

The Franciscan custodians of the basilica of St. Francis in Assisi have extended the hours of that the lower church will be open, so that pilgrims can pray at the tomb of St. Francis this weekend.

The Franciscans announced that they were extending the visiting hours of the basilica as part of their response to the call by Pope Francis for prayers for peace in Syria. On Saturday evening, the friars will join in a prayer vigil at the basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, at the request of Assisi’s Bishop Domenico Sorrentino.
