Lindy Boggs, former US ambassador to Vatican, dead at 97

Lindy Boggs, a former member of the US House of Representatives who later became US ambassador to the Vatican, died on July 27 at the age of 97.

Lindy Boggs was the wife of Rep. Hale Boggs, a Louisiana Democrat, who was killed in an airplane accident in 1972. Elected to take his place, she continued to serve in the US House until 1991. She was named ambassador to the Vatican in 1997 by President Bill Clinton and held that post until 2001.
