Scranton diocese to close 91 parishes

Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton announced on Sunday that he would close 91 of the diocese’s 209 parishes. The bishop cited a declining number of priests, changing demographics, and the diocese’s precarious financial situation as reasons for the closures.
