President Obama meets with leader of ‘nuns on the bus’

June 03, 2013

President Barack Obama received Sister Simone Campbell, president of the lobbying group Network, at the White House on May 30.

The White House did not release a transcript of the president’s remarks.

Sister Campbell, who addressed the Democratic National Convention in September after stating she was hesitant to call herself pro-life, launched Network’s second “nuns on the bus” tour on May 28. During last year’s tour, the nuns protested Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan; this year, the sisters are advocating for immigration reform.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith criticized Network in its 2012 Doctrinal Assessment of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.

Rather than giving this renegade group free advertising and quasi legitimacy by reporting their latest actions, it would be much better to completely ignore them and let them wither away on their own. They do not deserve the recognition.
