Soccer star recounts audience with Pope

April 29, 2013

In an interview with L’Osservatore Romano, Argentine soccer star Javier Zanetti discussed an hour-long meeting that Pope Francis had with him, his wife, and his three children on April 25.

“He just learned to walk,” Zanetti said in reference to his 11-month-old boy, “and during our meeting he did nothing but go from one end of the room to the other. So much so that in the end the Pope put his hand on his little head almost as if he wanted to stop him.”

“I was able to experience first-hand that Bergoglio is a very open, humble and simple person,” he added, “but what struck me most was his trust in the possibility of building a better world.”
