'Cybersquatters' seize domain names linked to Pope Francis
CWN - March 15, 2013
Since the election of Pope Francis, "cybersquatters" have snapped up domain names that resembled the new Pontiff's name.
Within hours after the announcement of the new Pope's identity, internet domains were newly registered for:
- Popefrancisi.com
- Popefrancis.org
- Popefrancis.co.uk
- Popefrancis.fr, and
- Popefrancisi.eu
None of these domain names was registered by the Vatican.
Interestingly, the domain name "Popefrancis.com" had already been registerd in 2010--again, not by the Vatican.
