New book from Vatican publisher contains last public addresses of Pope Benedict XVI

CWN - March 08, 2013

The Vatican publishing house has released a new book including the public remarks by Pope Benedict XVI between the day when he announced his decision to resign and the time when that resignation took effect.

Entitled “I have never felt alone,” the book is described by the Libreria Editrice Vaticana as a “small tribute” to the Pope-emeritus. The title is taken from the address that Benedict XVI delivered at the last general audience of his pontificate.

The book, which is available only in Italian, begins with the surprise announcement that Pope Benedict made during the consistory on February 11. It includes all of his public remarks from that moment until his final words from the balcony of the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo, after he arrived then upon his departure from the Vatican—even including the apostolic letter that he wrote revising the norms for the election of his successor. The back cover of the book features a sentence from Pope Benedict’s words to the people of Castel Gandolfo: “I am simply a pilgrim beginning the last leg of his pilgrimage on earth.”
