Vatican establishes diplomatic ties with South Sudan

The Holy See has reached an agreement with the newly independent Republic of South Sudan to establish formal diplomatic relations.
The Vatican, which was quick to extend recognition to the world’s newest country after a referendum vote led to the partition of Sudan, will send an apostolic nuncio to the African country, while South Sudan will set up an embassy at the Vatican.
