Spanish government: adopted children from Morocco must be raised as Muslims

Catholic World News - February 22, 2013

The governments of Spain and Morocco have agreed that Moroccan children adopted by Spanish families must be raised as Muslims.

“The agreement obliges the Spanish government to establish a ‘control mechanism’ that would enable Moroccan religious authorities to monitor the children until they reach the age of 18 to ensure they have not converted to Christianity,” according to a report published by the Gatestone Institute, a think tank chaired by R. James Woolsey, Jr., who served as CIA director from 1993 to 1995.

Once again we see that children of privilege receive special treatment. I think we are seeing the genesis of a new "right" in Spain: the "right" to suppress conscience. You have to wonder if something similar could happen in a Western "democracy" like the U.S. I suppose that where mob rule prevails (i.e., pure democracy) and religion remains cowed, all kinds of "rights" can be invented. Consider this: driving on U.S. highways is called a privilege, but abortion is called a right.
