Priest murdered in Venezuela

February 20, 2013

A 44-year-old Venezuela was fatally shot in the head, the victim of an apparent carjacking attempt. Father José Ramón Mendoza Vásquez died trying to save the lives of family members who were in the car with him.

“Father Mendoza was a man of prayer,” said Archbishop Antonio José López Castillo of Barquisimeto, who identified the priest’s body at the morgue. “They have taken the life of a minister of God. They have taken the life of an innocent man.”
