Pope, Curia leaders begin week-long retreat

Pope Benedict XVI and the leaders of the Roman Curia began their annual Lenten Retreat on Sunday evening, February 17.

The spiritual exercises, held in the Redemptoris Mater chapel of the apostolic palace, will conclude on Saturday morning, February 23. During the week of the retreat, there are no papal audiences.

The preacher for this year’s retreat, chosen by Pope Benedict XVI, is Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, the president of the Pontifical Council for Culture.
