USCCB, CRS: Israeli security wall threatens convents, Catholic school
CWN - February 11, 2013
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) are urging Catholics to sign a petition opposing the rerouting of the Israeli West Bank barrier through the Cremisan Valley, which is located near Bethlehem.
“This area is now in danger of being destroyed due to Israeli occupation and security policies that would reroute the Israeli-Palestinian separation barrier through it,” according to an “action alert” published by the USCCB and CRS.
“More than 50 Palestinian families and two Salesian convents will lose their lands and their livelihoods,” the alert continues. “The Salesian Sisters Convent and School that provides education to more than 400 children in the adjacent villages will be surrounded by a military presence and inhibit many children from going to school.”
