Polish court rules that crucifix in parliament is permitted

Catholic World News - January 17, 2013

A Warsaw court has ruled the crucifix that has been displayed in parliament since 1997 may remain there.

“The presence of a religious symbol in a public place, such as parliament, does not violate freedom of conscience,” Judge Alicja Fronczyk ruled.

The judged criticized Palikot’s Movement, the anti-clerical political party that filed the lawsuit, for claiming to support tolerance while failing to be tolerant of religious symbols.

The party holds 43 out of 460 seats in the parliament.

Cheers! Judge Fronczyk exhibits some sanity in the morass of anti-clericalism prevalent today.
