French cardinal warns against manipulating definition of marriage
CWN - January 10, 2013
Cardinal Philippe Barbarin of Lyon, who will lead a mass demonstration in favor of traditional marriage on January 13, has warned that a government proposal to legalize same-sex marriage could have disastrous consequences.
“When you manipulate the meaning of words, that leads to violence, and the risk of triggering a vast response,” Cardinal Barbarin said. He criticized the government’s slogan of “marriage for all,” saying that without clear norms regarding who is eligible to marry, there is no logical reason to exclude unions involving 3 or 4 partners, or partners who are members of the same family.
