Mosul: Christians in fear following murders
January 10, 2013
Christians in Mosul -- Iraq’s third-largest city, near the ancient city of Nineveh -- are increasingly living in fear following the murders of a Christian teacher and a university student.
On January 7, the body of Shdha Elias, 54, was found; her throat had been slit. The following day, a car bomb claimed the life of a medical student.
“Many Christian families … have lost confidence in everything,” said a local government official who is a Christian. “The government is incapable of doing anything to protect them. What future do non-Muslims have in countries where violence reigns?”
