Canonization this year for John Paul II?

January 09, 2013

A prominent Italian cardinal has predicted that Blessed John Paul II will be canonized soon.

"If not this year, it will be 2014," Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re told the ANSA news service. The retired prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, Cardinal Re is extremely well connected with other Vatican officials.

Since he was beatified in 2011, Pope John Paul II would be cleared for canonization if another miracle is certified to his intercession. Cardinal Re said that he has learned that “three or four of his miracles” are currently being studied, with officials weighing which reported miracle would offer the strongest case for approval.
