‘Soho Mass’ organizers still organizing liturgies in London?

Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Westminster has announced that the “Soho Masses” will be discontinued. But William Oddie of the Catholic Herald worries that the announcement—apparently made under pressure from Rome—was only a superficial move.

The “Soho Masses Pastoral Council,” which had organized the liturgical celebrations for homosexuals, remains in existence, and is being encouraged to continue its work at a different parish, Oddie notes. Leaders of the group, having received reassurances from the Westminster diocese, are not distressed by the end of the “Soho Masses,” he reports. One representative of the pro-homosexual group says: “We are simply being moved, to a situation which in many respects offers far more opportunities…”
