Syria: Christians fear for the future

Catholic World News - December 24, 2012

As Syrian rebels’ “ranks are becoming dominated by Islamists,” the Christians who have not fled the country are increasingly fearful for the future, the Associated Press reports.

One woman who fled for Lebanon reported that her parents, who remain in Syria, “are in a Christian area, but they don't feel secure to put a tree, even inside their apartment.”

Rebel forces are not the only danger facing Christians, however. Dozens of civilians, mostly Christian, were killed by an air raid in the town of Halfaya, as they waited in line to buy bread. Halfaya is controlled by the rebels; the attack was reportedly by a government plane.
