The Catholic bishops of the Philippines have promised that they will not give up their fight to prevent enactment of a sweeping Reproductive Health bill that has now won approval in both houses of the nation's legislature.
Although the bill has full legislative approval, and the support of President Benigno Aquino, the bishops have vowed that "the war is not yet over." The bishops argue that the legislation, which allows for distribution of contraceptives and sex education in the classrooms, will produce disastrous results.
"They might have won through the tyranny of numbers but it does not mean that they are right," said Bishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen-Dagupan.
