Cardinal Zen decries Chinese action against Bishop Ma
CWN - December 14, 2012
Cardinal Joseph Zen, the retired Bishop of Hong Kong and leading critic of Chinese restrictions on religious freedom, has denounced the Beijing regime for revoking its recognition of Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin.
“Who are they?” Cardinal Zen wrote on his blog, referring to the officials of the government-sponsored Chinese bishops’ conference, which withdrew recognition for the Shanghai auxiliary. “Are they soon to depose the Pope too?”
“Can this be anything other than a schismatic church?” the cardinal asked.
