Bollywood-style movie about Jesus to be shown on Indian TV
CWN - December 13, 2012
Christaayan, the first Hindi-language film about Jesus, will appear on Indian television. 80% of the actors, including the actor who portrays Jesus, are non-Christian, though the film is directed by a priest of the Society of the Divine Word.
“In the movie, Jesus is concerned about the environment, defends the oppressed, and gives lessons in optimism,” said the actor who portrays St. Andrew.
In a favorable L’Osservatore Romano article, Isabella Farinelli describes Christaayan as “a unique ‘first’: a film which re-elaborates an ancient subject, taking shape without forcing in that mechanism which is as clearly codified, as it versatile and multiform, which is Indian cinema.”
