Egyptian sentences Innocence of Muslims filmmakers to death

An Egyptian court has sentenced 7 Christians to death for their role in the making of the provocative film, Innocence of Muslims.
The death sentences were largely symbolic, since the Christians were tried in absentia. Nakoula Bassely Nakoula, the Egyptian-American primarily responsible for the film, is currently serving a jail sentence in America for violating his probation.
The Egyptian court found the accused parties guilty of “insulting the Islamic religion through participating in producing and offering a movie that insults Islam and its prophet.” Innocence of Muslims, a low-budget film that has been distributed only over the internet, was blamed for a series of violent actions by Islamic militants beginning on September 11.
