World expects honesty in inter-religious dialogue, cardinal says at opening of new center

The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Centre for Inter-religious and Inter-cultural Dialogue (KAICIID) “presents another opportunity for open dialogue on many issues, including those related to fundamental human rights, in particular religious freedom in all its aspects, for everybody, for every community, everywhere.” Those were the words of Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, speaking at the inauguration of the new center in Vienna, Austria, on November 27.
“We are being watched,” the cardinal told participants at the opening ceremony. He said that the world expects “honesty, vision, and credibility” from the new initiative.
Cardinal Tauran, the president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue, observed that participants in the KAICIID’s activities should “understand that the Holy See is particularly attentive to the fate of Christian communities in countries where such a freedom is not adequately guaranteed.”
