Chad: students ask government to relent on bishop's expulsion

CWN - October 31, 2012

A Catholic students’ organization in Chad is calling upon the country’s government to reverse the expulsion of Bishop Michael Russo.

The government of Chad ordered Bishop Russo to leave the country after the Italian-born prelate delivered a sermon in which he denounced the government’s complicity with oil companies in exploiting the nation’s reserves for private profit.

The Association of Catholic Students of Chad urged the government to reconsider the bishop’s expulsion. Gregoire Djimsangar, a spokesman for the organization, said that the bishop’s criticism was on the mark. “Everything Msgr. Russo said is true,” he insisted.
