Pope meets with President of Cyprus

Pope Benedict XVI met on October 25 with President Demetris Christofias of Cyprus. Their conversation revolved around issues of human rights and religious freedom, according to a brief Vatican statement released after the meeting.

The Pope and Christofias also spoke about the future of the European Union, where Cyprus now holds the revolving presidency of the Council, and about the prospects for peace in the Middle East.
