Los Angeles archdiocese prepares to release accused priests' files

The Los Angeles archdiocese is preparing to release the personnel files of priests accused of sexual abuse, after the California Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from clerics seeking to block the publication of their files.
In 2006, the archdiocese agreed to release the files, as part of a settlement in which the archdiocese also paid $660 million to settle more than 500 sex-abuse lawsuits. Tod Tamberg, a spokesman for the archdiocese, said that Church officials have been “cooperative” with the effort to prepare the files for release, and the documents should be made public when a vetting process is complete, perhaps within a few months.
