USCCB: October prayer initiatives for respect for life, religious liberty

October 01, 2012

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a Holy Hour for Life and Religious Liberty for use during the month of October to complement its recently announced special Mass and Rosary novena.

“This past spring, the bishops urged an intensification of prayer efforts for religious freedom in our country,” according to the web page devoted to the initiatives. “With October being Respect Life Month and the Month of the Holy Rosary, it seems an appropriate time to ask for Our Lady's intercession for these intentions.”

The holy hour includes the singing of the O Salutaris Hostia and Tantum Ergo Sacramentum, Scripture readings, Benediction, and prayers, including a prayer “for all churches, agencies, employers, healthcare providers and individuals: that they may be free from government mandates that would compel them to compromise their beliefs.”
