Italian Catholic weekly decries corruption in local politics

The influential Catholic weekly Famiglia Cristiana has blasted public officials in Lazio, the administrative region around Rome, for financial mismanagement.
After officials announced an investigation into the expenditures of the ruling People of Freedom party, Lazio's governor Renata Polverini resigned, promising new revelations about misappropriation of funds. Famiglia Cristiana, in an angry editorial, denounced the ''indecent squandering of resources that offends the poor, the unemployed and young people without work."
