Monarch offers land for church building in Bahrain

King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain has answered a request from Pope Benedict XVI for a plot of land on which a new Catholic church can be constructed. The little country already has one Catholic church, dating back to 1939. There are about 80,000 Catholics in Bahrain; most are guest workers from the Philippines living in a mostly Islamic society.
