Survey finds support for some restrictions on abortion

January 05, 2009

A survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has found that over 70% of Americans support informed consent, parental notification, and conscience-protection legislation related to abortion. Smaller majorities of 68% and 63% support laws against partial-birth abortion and taxpayer funding of abortion. Only 11% of those who completed the survey oppose abortion in all circumstances, while an additional 38% would permit abortion only in the cases of rape, incest, or saving the life of the mother.
