Renault presents Pope with an electric car
CWN - September 05, 2012
Pope Benedict XVI has received an electric car, to be used around Vatican City.
The white Renault Kangoo, a gift presented to the Pontiff on September 5, is one of three such vehicles the Vatican has received. Renault also gave a Kangoo for use by the Vatican gendarmerie, while the Italian firm NWG provided a similar “green” vehicle for the Vatican press office.
For public trips outside the Vatican, Pope Benedict continues to use a customized Mercedes—also a gift to the Vatican—which is armored with bulletproof panels that “green” vehicles cannot currently support. Mercedes has announced plans to provide a “green” vehicle for the Pope’s use in the near future.
